Overview

AMERISAFE is seeking a detailed-oriented, productivity driven professional to add to our “Excellence Team” based in DeRidder, LA.  An underwriter decides whether to provide insurance and under what terms through detailed risk analysis and assessment.  Upon completion of our in-depth training program, you will be given the tools to effectively underwrite and manage an assigned new and/or renewal book of business.

 

Upon an offer and acceptance of employment with AMERISAFE, you will be required to complete our pre-employment screening, which includes a criminal background check, a 10-panel drug test and, if applicable, a review of your motor vehicle report. A 10-panel drug test includes amphetamine/methamphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine metabolite (BZE), marijuana metabolite (THCA), methadone, methaqualone, codeine/morphine, phencyclidine, propoxyphene.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma, college degree preferred
  • Insurance underwriting experience desired
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to travel periodically (less than 10% of time) and must possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Successful completion of the AMERISAFE Underwriting Operations Advanced Development Program (training program)
  • Maintenance and servicing of an assigned book of new and/or renewal workers compensation policies that contribute to AMERISAFE profit and production goals
  • Applying sound judgment in determining an insurance risk’s acceptability through detailed research and risk analysis
  • Working as an effective team member to develop and foster professional relationships with internal and external customers
  • Participating in projects, professional development opportunities, and special assignments
  • Others as assigned
