    Underwriting Specialist: As an insurance underwriting specialist, you decide whether to provide insurance and under what terms. An underwriting specialist evaluates insurance applications and determines what coverage amounts and premiums should be. Due to our specialization in hazardous industries, we understand the unique risks our clients face in the workplace. AMERISAFE underwrites and handles the servicing of workers compensation and general liability accounts, in accordance with the objectives and procedures outlined by the Company and within the appropriate authority level as deemed by the VP of Underwriting.

    The successful individual in this key role will be responsible for:

    • Sending quote reminders on new and renewal business
    • Calling on quoted business daily
    • Updating status with necessary comments or other information
    • Processing of experience mods
    • Assisting with answering phone calls and taking messages
    • Processing loss run requests and additional information requests
    • Handling written and phone requests for missing information as directed by Underwriter(s), keeping the highest level of professional communication standards in place
    • Following up on obtaining signed forms as required for policy fulfillment and supplemental forms (Trucking, USL&H, Aircraft, etc.).
    • Ordering loss control inspections, as needed, send recommendations, to the agent, that resulted from a loss control visit
    • Contacting engineers for status on past due reports
    • Assisting with quoting renewal accounts 


    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

    • High school diploma or GED required, advanced education a plus
    • Professional written and verbal communication skills
    • Insurance and customer service experience is highly preferred
    • World class customer experience attitude
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and basic computer proficiency
    • Accurate typing and data entry
    • Strong team focus
